A top Chinese army general Thursday warned India against provoking new trouble by increasing military deployment at the China-India border.

Beijing, July 4/Nationalturk – Ahead of the arrival of Indian Defence Minister A K Antony on a three-day visit to China, a top Chinese army general Thursday warned India against provoking new trouble by increasing military deployment at the China-India border.

“It is a known fact that there are tensions and problems between China and India, particularly at the border areas,” Major General Luo Yuan told reporters today.

He said there is still problem of 90,000 sq km of territory still occupied by India. “These are the problems left over from history and we should look at it,” he said while replying to a question about People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) views on India-China relations in view of start of three-day visit of Indian Defence Minister A K Antony’s to country, beginning today.

Major General Luo, who is deputy-director general of world military research department at PLA academy, said India should not provoke new problems. It should not stir new trouble by increasing military deployment at the border areas”.

‘India should be cautious’

Known for his nationalist views, he said India is the only country, which says it is developing military power due to China’s military threat.

“India should be cautious about what it says and what it does,” Luo said.

China claims Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh (AP) its territory. It claims that the territory is under occupation of Indian forces and calls the State (AP) as Southern Tibet.

India claims that border dispute covered 4,000 km along Line Actual Control (LAC), while China states that the dispute was confined to 2,000 km that is Arunachal Pradesh.

The border tension between the two countries took an ugly turn in May this over troop movements along Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh in Indian administered Kashmir. The three-week standoff was resolved after talks between India and China military leaders and tension was defused after withdrawal of troops from both sides to their old positions.

First Indian Defence Minister to visit China in 7 yrs

Meanwhile, A K Antony is first Indian Defence Minister to visit China in seven years to visit China. During his three-day visit to Beijing, he is scheduled to meet his Chinese counterpart, Chinese Premier and top Chinese army generals.

His visit coincides with the visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is on a four-day visit to China.

Pakistan, India’s nuclear-armed neighbour and arch-rival, is a longstanding close ally of Beijing. China has been described by different Pakistan government as country’s “all weather ally”.
