Cuba condemns US interference in China’s internal affairs

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said today that his country condemns U.S. interference in China’s internal affairs.

On his Twitter account, the foreign minister also expressed his support for China’s right to ensure the well-being of all its citizens.

The head of the island’s diplomacy also welcomed China’s decisions to consolidate its development, recover from the Covid-19 and strengthen institutions, legality and national security throughout its territory.

This support is generated by the campaign against the approval, by the Asian country’s Parliament, of a decision to formulate a national security law in Hong Kong, which has US government officials as its main instigators.

The day before, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Twitter that he informed Congress that ‘Hong Kong is no longer autonomous from China, given the facts on the ground,’ which will have consequences in a number of areas.

For his part, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang urged the United States to handle any bilateral differences with caution and avoid confrontation, especially by interfering in its internal affairs.

Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China, which maintains this status under the formula of one country, two systems; but both Washington and other powers encourage its definitive separation.

The Chinese National People’s Congress (Parliament) approved this Thursday the elaboration of a national security law in Hong Kong, with the purpose of neutralizing the organization and execution of acts of terrorism, secession, subversion of the power of the State and foreign interference.
