Cuban Agriculture celebrates Reform day

Cuban Agriculture celebrates Reform dayCuba is celebrating Farmers´ Day more than half century of the declaration of first Agrarian Reform Law, a vital fact that totally altered the structure of estate in land in the Latin country.

One of the first steps of the revolutionary proceedings was taken in January 1959 with the approval of that law, which distrubuted large landholding with the nationalization of more than 400 hectares and redistributed them to those who worked them.

The action increases the magnitude of the U.S. hostility towards the island, as companies from the USA had substantional properties and interests in that and other sectors of Cuba.

Agrarian Reform plays monumental role in the Cuban Revolution

After the successful Revolution, the U.S. governmentn drew up strategies to destroy it, an offensive that included among other aggressions the Washington-financed invasion of Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs), in the western province of Matanzas, on April 1961.

The National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) is also celebrating 50 years of its foundation, in times of larger productivity and efficiency.
