Dominican Republic Nominated for World Tourism Awards

The so-called Oscars of the tourism industry, the World Travel Awards (WTA), announced that the Dominican Republic was nominated in 14 categories of these prizes.

The awarding ceremony of the region of the Americas and the Caribbean will be held in Turks and Caicos in September, reported the newspaper for tourist information.

The WTA was first granted in 1993 to recognize excellence in the travel and tourism global industry.

The awards are recognized as the highest laurels that a tourist product can receive.

Some 217,000 professionals, including travel agencies, and tourism and transport organizations in 162 countries, will cast their votes.

The Dominican Republic was nominated in the categories of leading airport lines (with the terminals of Punta Cana and La Romana), beach resort, leading cruise destination, sports tourism destination, hotel and leading boutique resort, and leading casino resort in the Caribbean.

The country was also nominated in the categories of all-inclusive hotel, family mode and golf resort, leading honeymoon resort, leading resort and all-inclusive luxury resort in the Caribbean.

Among the nominees in the Leading Caribbean Boutique Hotel are the Sivory Punta Cana and The Bannister. The boutique hotel Catalonia Bavaro Resort complex is on the list of Leading Caribbean Boutique resort.
