Donald Trump returns to Facebook and Instagram

Donald Trump was banned from Facebook and Instagram for two years.

Donald Trump was blocked from social media platforms after the elections that ended his presidency and the congress raid and tensions peaked. Trump, who founded his own social media platform Truth Social to come together with his supporters, will now be able to come to popular platforms again.

After Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, Trump’s blockade on Twitter, and now Facebook and Instagram under the Meta umbrella, are removed.

Meta Head of Global Affairs, Nick Clegg, said in an interview with Axios, which broke the news for the first time, that the company decided to allow Trump access to his account again shortly before the 2024 election cycle.

Clegg said that he hopes that if Trump decides to return to the platform, he will not display the same attitude in the 2024 elections as he did in the 2020 elections: “If he is going to return to our services, we do not want him to use our services to undermine the legitimacy of the 2024 elections, even though he is trying to discredit the 2020 elections, which is what he did on January 6th. We have always believed that Americans should be able to hear from those who want to rule the country.”

Clegg added that Trump, who was impeached following the January 6, 2021 uprising, would be subject to new policies and restrictions.

“Like any other Facebook or Instagram user, Mr. Trump is subject to our community standards,” Clegg said on Meta’s website. “In light of his violations, he now faces higher penalties for repeated offenses.”

The company added that if Trump violates old or new policies, he could be banned for between one month and two years.

Clegg continued, “We may limit the dissemination of such posts and, in repeated cases, temporarily restrict access to our advertising tools. With this step, the content will remain visible on Mr. Trump’s account, but will not appear in people’s feeds, even if they follow Mr. Trump. We may also remove the reshare option on such posts and stop recommending posts.”

“Facebook, which has lost billions of dollars since removing your favorite President from the platform, has just announced that it has restored my account,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. Never again should something like this happen to an incumbent president or anyone else who doesn’t deserve vengeance!”

Meta banned Trump on January 7, 2021, a day after the US Congress building was raided to protest the results of the 2020 presidential election.

In an interview with Fox News that year, Trump described Zuckerberg and other tech leaders as “sick” and reacted sharply to the company’s decision. In 2021, he sued Facebook, Twitter and Google for alleged censorship, but was rejected by a California judge last year.
