Hollywood star Bruce Willis ended his acting career due to illness. This was announced by his family. He suffers from aphasia, a speech disorder.

This news from Hollywood comes as a surprise: “Die Hard” star Bruce Willis is retiring as an actor. The message was announced by Rumer Willis, the eldest daughter of the 67-year-old actor, on her Instagram profile. Her sister Scout, as well as Willis’ wife Emma Heming-Willis and his ex-wife Demi Moore also shared the news.

Beneath a picture of the actor, the family members wrote: “To the wonderful supporters of Bruce Willis: As a family, we would like to announce that our beloved Bruce has health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia which is affecting his cognitive abilities. Due to the diagnosis and With much thought, Bruce will end the career that has meant so much to him.”

Aphasia is an acquired language disorder. This can be caused by a lesion, i.e. damage to the brain. Aphasia can therefore arise as a result of various diseases, such as a stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral hemorrhage or tumors. It is not yet known what caused Willis to become ill.

The statement continued, “It’s a really challenging time for our family and we really appreciate your love, compassion and support. We will get through this as a strong family and we wanted to share it with his fans because we know how much they mean to him.”

Born in 1955 in Idar-Oberstein in Rhineland-Palatinate to a US soldier and a German mother, Willis became a superstar in the late 1980s with “Die Hard”. In the 1988 action film, Willis plays a tough New York cop who takes on a group of terrorists who have taken hostages in a high-rise building. Four more Die Hard films were later added.

Willis has also appeared in films such as “Pulp Fiction”, “The Fifth Element”, “Armageddon” and “The Sixth Sense”. Willis was now considered one of the biggest Hollywood stars. For his achievements, he received a star on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.
