Eleven people have been shot dead at an illegal horse race in Ciudad Juárez, in northern Mexico. A dispute between two rival gangs has therefore escalated.
“So far we have reports of 11 people who have unfortunately lost their lives,” Chihuahua State Public Safety Minister Gilberto Loya said on Monday. Accordingly, two rival criminal gangs had shot at each other.
Chihuahua is located on the border with the United States and is therefore one of the centers of drug crime in Mexico. According to the government, a total of 411 people were killed in the state in the first three months of the year.
