Evo Morales Heading to Cuba for Throat Surgery

Bolivian President Evo Morales will travel to Cuba on Wednesday to undergo surgery on his throat.

Health minister Ariana Campero explained that Morales has a benign nodule of 1.5 millimeters, which will be removed during surgery.

“The surgery will last for 15 to 20 minutes and the entire medical protocol will be fulfilled. President Morales will have to spend about six days without talking to complete his recovery,” Campero added.

According to Havana Times, The 57-year-old politician was previously subjected to six surgeries due to problems in the clavicle, gallbladder, knee, nose and left leg, where he was operated on two occasions.

Morales traveled to Havana in early March for a medical emergency, also for a throat ailment. His trip was criticized by members of the Bolivian Medical College and political opponents who reproached him for preferring Cuban doctors instead of Bolivian doctors.
