Friday saw the warmest day of the year with thermometers reaching 42°Celcius in Istanbul with a population of 17 million.

The latest heat wave is also affecting other cities in the country with officials warning elders to stay indoors during the afternoon hours and for children to wear hats.

Experts are also warning people to drink at least three liters of water a day to keep up with the fluid loss caused by the hot weathers.

Authorities are also warning people to be careful around forestry areas as devastating fires were recorded in previous years due to litter left behind by picnickers.

The hot weather is estimated to continue into next week as the Ramadan month will start and millions of people will fast.

Experts have also warned that the elderly, children and people with health problems should not fast during hot weather.
