Ferry sinks in Bangladesh : At least 28 dead

A ferry sank in a river in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka and at least 28 bodies were recovered by divers.

Dozens are still missing as rescue operations continue in the Buriganga River, which flows past the outskirts of the capital Dhaka.

The big accident occurred on Monday when a passenger ferry Moyur collided with passenger vessel Morning Bird near Farazganj in Dhaka.

The Morning Bird went down prompting the authorities to send immediately rescuers from the Fire Service and Civil Defence department, Navy and Coastguard on the scene, he said.

The fatalities include three children.

However, officials could not confirm how many passengers were on board the vessel at the time of the accident. Local media quoting eye witnesses and police put the figure at 100.
