Fraternal meeting between Díaz-Canel and Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received this Tuesday, at the Palace of the Revolution, the Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez Gómez, who makes a working visit to the Greater Antilles as part of the review of intergovernmental agreements between both nations.

«Delcy and Venezuelan brothers, it is a pleasure for us to welcome you here in Cuba. This is her house », expressed the President to the Executive Vice President of the South American country and those who accompany her. “Here there is nothing that is protocol,” said the host, who also stated that the meeting was to exchange on issues of common interest.

The Head of State thanked Delcy Rodríguez for the visit, sent greetings to his counterpart Nicolás Maduro Moros, and extended his thanks to the brother country for the support provided to Cuba, for “the donations that have come to us in very complex times and that They have helped us to solve a group of difficulties».

Likewise, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party ratified to the visitor “the will of unconditional support for the Bolivarian Revolution”, and “the support, in our modest possibilities, with the Cuban collaboration”, at the time of “continuing to work in collaboration programs.

The president offered Delcy Rodríguez details about the current situation in Cuba: he spoke of the tightened blockade by the US government; and made reference to the aggressiveness of the northern country, a position that is expressed through media campaigns against nations such as Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba.

These are campaigns – Díaz-Canel denounced – “that are systematic, that are mounted on a group of intoxication platforms.” For this reason, the President also spoke of coordinating efforts with the Latin American left, “to intelligently confront the intense media aggression, knowing that they have an advantage over us on the technological issue, and that we have to look for dynamic, revolutionary ways.”

The challenge that COVID-19 has entailed and how Cuban science created vaccines that have made it possible to transform the adverse epidemiological situation of time ago, was another topic addressed by the First Secretary. “Now,” he pointed out, after explaining the stages of the disease’s behavior on the Island, “the important thing is to maintain ourselves with booster doses, to continue with those levels of immunity.”

Díaz-Canel reflected that, when the world should be thinking about ways to save human lives, it is immersed in the sad reality of wars that are raging.

Delcy Rodríguez thanked the host for the welcome, reiterated Venezuela’s unconditional support for Cuba, and made reference to how her country is also severely blocked: “We – she denounced – already have 502 unilateral coercive measures that suffocate and suffocate the economy, especially for the income of foreign exchange. Venezuela, since 2015, is completely excluded from the international financial system. It is a complex situation, which makes all transactions more expensive.

During the meeting –marked by solidarity and by common realities and battles– topics such as the allusion to the regional context were addressed, from which the progress and perspectives of the Bolivarian Alliance for Our Peoples of America-People’s Trade Treaty were discussed.

During the exchange, Delcy Rodríguez was accompanied by ministers and officials of the Bolivarian Government. On the Cuban side, members of the Political Bureau, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla were present; the Vice Prime Minister, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, and the heads of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, and Energy and Mines, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz and Liván Arronte Cruz, respectively; as well as the Vice Chancellor of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Josefina Vidal Ferreiro.
