According to US media reports, Hollywood star Harrison Ford will play in the superhero film »Captain America: New World Order«. In the fourth “Captain America” film adaptation, the 80-year-old is on board as Thaddeus Ross, the industry journals “Hollywood Reporter” and “Variety” reported. The role of the mustachioed General Ross had previously been played by William Hurt several times, including in Marvel films such as The Incredible Hulk, Avengers: Infinity War and Black Widow. Hurt died of cancer in March at the age of 71.

Ford, who is making his debut in a Marvel superhero film, will star alongside lead actor Anthony Mackie (“The Hurt Locker”). Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah (»The Cloverfield Paradox«, »Luce«) is directing.

Mackie has appeared several times as Marvel hero Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, most recently in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. From the “Avengers” series, Mackie is known as an ally of Captain America (Chris Evans), who is now to take over his legacy. This scenario was also picked up by the Marvel miniseries The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, starring Mackie and Sebastian Stan.

Ford recently played the daring archeology professor Henry Walton Jones for the fifth time. The Indiana Jones sequel is slated to hit theaters in June 2023.

Cinema: New cast in “Captain America” film causes a sensation – “I never thought of it”

Great excitement about the new Captain America movie! The next strip from the MCU, which is expected to start in cinemas on May 3, 2024, is likely to confuse some viewers. Because: In the fourth film of the popular superhero, there is a new cast.

The announcement alone has mixed feelings among Marvel fans. While some can hardly wait, others are considering whether they should even go to the cinema for “Captain America: New World Order”.

Harrison Ford is the new “General Ross” – in cinemas from 2024

After the death of actor William Hurt, who died on March 13, 2022 of complications from prostate cancer, the search for a venerable successor has begun. The Oscar winner has embodied the role of the antagonist “General Ross” in a total of five Marvel films. His first appearance was in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk.

The character will also be part of the new “Captain America” film, which is why the role has been recast. From now on, Hollywood star Harrison Ford will embody “General Thaddeus Ross”. His second appearance as Secretary of State in the MCU is already certain.

In addition to Captain America: New World Or, Harrison Ford will also star in Thunderbolts, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This is the first film from the fictional anti-hero team of reformed super villains. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2024.

While it’s Harrison Ford’s first Marvel film, the actor has had decades of experience working with major franchises. Film fans know him best for his leading roles in the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” blockbusters. The fifth part of “Indiana Jones” will follow on June 30, in which the now 80-year-old Ford will be seen for the last time as an intrepid archaeologist.

Marvel fans criticize movie star Harrison Ford

In particular, the actor’s old age worries some Marvel fans. “People tend to have very long contracts within the MCU. They should take someone in their 50s. He broke his hip on the last film and the production was delayed,” one of them tweeted. Another even suggested: “This shows me that Marvel is nearing the end of the character.”

Others accuse the superstar of being greedy. “He’s in pretty much every franchise. My guy likes money,” wrote one Twitter user. Another sneers: “Never expected that the man who starred in five ‘Star Wars’ movies, five ‘Indiana Jones’ movies and a sequel to ‘Blade Runner’ would actually star in more blockbuster movies would bring him a lot of money.”

But among all the critical comments, there are also numerous positive voices. “Can’t wait,” wrote one excited fan. Another commented, “I never thought I’d see the day Harrison Ford joins the MCU.”

However, they do place one requirement on the producers: “William Hurt’s sensational work [must, editor’s note] not be forgotten”.
