Drama in the Himalayas: Hilaree Nelson has been missing since an accident on the Manaslu descent. The climber had previously admitted doubts about her trip.
In 2012 she was the first woman to conquer Mount Everest and its neighboring mountain Lhotse within 24 hours. In 2018 she made history with the first ski descent from Lhotse – now the famous American ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson is missing in the Himalayas.
The 49-year-old had an accident on Monday while descending Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world, shortly after the summit, a spokesman for the tour organization Shangri-La Nepal Treks confirmed to the AFP news agency.
Last Thursday, Nelson admitted via Instagram that this time he didn’t feel as safe “as in my past adventures in the thin air of the Himalayas. The last few weeks have been a whole new test of my resilience.”
