New Delhi, Nov 23/NationalTurk – The two major Asian giants China and India have been involved in a new territorial row with Beijing claiming Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh as its territory.

Indian TV channel, NDTV quoting sources reported that Beijing is issuing passports to its citizens, which show a map that includes Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin (in Ladakh) as part of China.

Sources said India is retaliating by stamping these passports with its own version of the map, marking out its own territorial boundaries.

China claims that Arunachal Pradesh is part of its territory and had been given stapled visas instead of normal visa to citizens from Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh, who intended to visit China.

China had also being issuing stapled visa to residents of Indian administered Kashmir, stating that it was not part of India. However, after Indian government took up this issue with Chinese government in the past, the Beijing had relented.

Beijing started issuing stapled visas in 2008

China had in 2008 started the practice of issuing visas on loose sheets of paper to people from Jammu and Kashmir, which was seen here as questioning India’s sovereignty over the state. This had been an irritant in bilateral relations and the matter had snowballed into a major controversy in 2010 after Beijing refused visa to an Indian Army General BS Jaswal on the ground that he headed troops in Indian administered Kashmir.

However, after talks between Indian and Chinese officials, Beijing relented.

Sources said this issue may be discussed during Indian National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon’s forthcoming visit to Beijing.
