In a Facebook post, Indian PM said, “With President Barack Obama. We had a wonderful meeting and talked about a wide range of issues. Both President Obama and I share a vision for a partnership in which our nations work together for the benefit of the entire humankind.”

Media reports said Indian PM gifted Obama a special reprint of India’s Father of the Nation’s interpretation of the Hindu religious book Gita and some memorabilia associated with the American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Modi,  was denied  visa to the United States in 2005 on human rights grounds over communal riots in his home state of Gujarat three years before that.

Modi was CM during anti-Muslim riots in Indian State of Gujarat

Modi was chief minister of Gujarat during 2002 anti-Muslim riots. Over one thousand Muslims were killed in the riots and US had repeatedly denied visa to Modi, who remained as Chief Minister of Indian State of Gujarat till he became prime minister of India in April-May this year.

However, after Modi took over as PM of India, US and other Western countries have  made strenuous efforts to court him – sending several cabinet level delegations to New Delhi and pushing for an early visit to the United States.
