Indian PM to visit Japan from Aug 30, vows to take ties to new level

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be visiting Japan on August 30, has said he wants to take relations between the two countries to a new level.

New Delhi, Aug 27/Nationalturk – Ahead of his three-day visit to Japan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he wants to take relations between the two countries to a new level and increase cooperation in various field.

PM Narendra Modi, whose rightwing Hindu party BJP  was voted to power in general elections in April-May this year,  is scheduled to visit Japan on a three-day visit from August 30. His visit was scheduled in early July but it had to be postponed due to session of Indian parliament.

“On August 30 I will begin my visit to Japan. I am keenly looking forward to the visit, which will boost relations between our 2 nations,” Modi said in his message ahead of his visit.

He said he sees the Japan visit as an opportunity to take our ties with Japan to a new level and increase cooperation in various fields.

“I will visit Tokyo and Kyoto, and interact with all sections of Japanese society from students, political leaders to captains of industry,” he said adding scale of innovation and level of precision among the people of Japan is admirable and both nations can learn a lot from each other.

Modi said he was particularly excited to meet Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. “I deeply respect his leadership and enjoy a warm relationship with him from previous meetings.”

“We are two vibrant democracies committed to advancing peace and prosperity in the world,” he said.

‘Civil-Nuclear accord may be signed’

Indian PM’s visit is going to be high on strategic, defence cooperation and the civil nuclear cooperation agreement is expected to be signed formally. Negotiations for a nuclear deal with Japan started in 2010 but following the Fukushima nuclear disaster, the talks slowed, with India expressing serious safety concerns.”

However, both sides revived the talks last year and both parties have agreed to clinch the deal soon. Japanese PM visited India in January this year and was chief guest for India’s Republic Day Parade on January 26.

India may invite Japan in establishing high-speed railways networks here, including the introduction of bullet trains with Japan’s Shinkansen system.

Indian business tycoons to accompany PM

Media reports said about 50 Indian top businessmen would accompany Prime Minister Modi during his three-day visit to the country.  Among the business tycoons, who are expected to be part of the PM’s delegation include Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani group, Dilip Shanghvi, chairman and managing director of Sun Pharmaceuticals, Azim Premji, chairman of Wipro, Chanda Kochhar, managing director and CEO of ICICI Bank, Shashi Ruia, Chairman of Essar Group, S Ramadorai, vice chairman of TCS and an adviser to the prime minister in the National Council on Skill Development, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairman and managing director of Biocon, K Venkataramanan, chief executive officer and managing director of Larsen & Toubro, D K Sarraf, chairman and managing director of ONGC and Sunil Mittal, chairman and group CEO of Bharti Enterprises.
