An Indian soldier killed five of his colleagues inside an army camp  in Indian administered Kashmir.

New Delhi, Feb 27/Nationalturk – In a fratricide incident, an Indian soldier killed five of his colleagues inside an army camp during the preceding night in Indian administered Kashmir.

Police sources said army soldier had a heated argument with his colleagues inside the army camp at Safapora, Ganderbal some 35 kms from summer capital Srinagar during the preceding night.

“In the fit of the anger, the soldier fired indiscriminately at five of his colleagues, causing their on-spot death. Later the soldier also shot himself dead,” they said.

Indian army spokesman in Srinagar has confirmed the incident.

“Five army men were killed by the soldier, who later committed suicide. Army will investigate the deaths,” he said.

Many incidents of fratricidal firing have taken place in Indian administered Kashmir after eruption of militancy in 1989. Many soldiers have lost their lives in such fratricide incidents.

Indian army had taken many steps including counseling and providing recreational facilities to de-stress its men and officers in Indian administered Kashmir to prevent fratricide incidents.
