Lebanese prime minister is in Washington to discuss Middle East security issues and peace efforts with President Barack Obama.
It is the first official visit to Washington by Saad Hariri since he became prime minister in 2009.
Monday’s visit comes amid tension between Israel and Lebanon over Israeli claims that Lebanon’s militant Hezbollah group has acquired Scud missiles transferred from Syria.
The U.S. State Department accused Damascus of “provocative behavior” in supplying arms to Hezbollah.
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates accused the militant group of having far more rockets and missiles than most governments in the world.
