Manuel Neuer falls back in goalkeeper rankings
Manuel Neuer has long been considered the best goalkeeper in the world.
According to a new ranking by the magazine “Kicker” he is no longer even world class.
No Bundesliga goalkeeper was classified in the “kicker” ranking list at the end of the year in the world class category. Seven Bundesliga goalkeepers, led by Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel, made it into the international category. The Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer, who is currently injured, only just managed to do so according to the assessment of the “kicker”.
Yann Sommer (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt), Koen Casteels (VfL Wolfsburg) and Mark Flekken (SC Freiburg) placed between the winner Kobel and national goalkeeper Neuer in seventh place.
In central defense, only Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich) and Matthias Ginter (SC Freiburg) made it into the international class. According to the “Kicker” view, no Bundesliga professional can adorn himself with the title world class in this category either. The other categories have not yet been published.
