McLaren Honda’s Spanish driver Fernando Alonso will not take part in the Australian Grand Prix, the first race of the Formula 1 season.
McLaren-Honda team said Tuesday that Alonso, who will require further treatment after crashing during pre-season tests in Barcelona on Feb. 22, will not join the event, which will take place March 13-15.
Meanwhile, British Jenson Button and the team’s backup driver Kevin Magnussen from Denmark will take part in the race.
Alonso, who spent the previous season at Ferrari, ranked sixth in drivers’ classification (Anadolu Agency).
