Meta turns off WhatsApp for some iPhone models

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messengers in the world and is regularly supported with new updates.

In order to be able to introduce new functions, the Meta subsidiary will soon part with some iPhone models

While Apple comes up with major updates every year, leaving some older products behind, many developers continue to support them. However, even these eventually reach a point where they can no longer support the legacy devices to introduce new features. Now it hits the iPhone once again as well as some Android devices. The Meta subsidiary (formerly Facebook) stopped supporting devices running iOS 10 or iOS 11 in the summer. The last update was published in October 2022. At that time it said:

Update to the latest version of iOS to keep using WhatsApp

WhatsApp will no longer support this version of iOS after October 24, 2022. Please go to Settings > General and then tap Software update to use the latest iOS version.

WhatsApp drops support for multiple iPhones and Androids
As the website GizChina reports, WhatsApp will no longer work on around 50 devices from December 31, 2022. This means that not only the installation of updates is possible, but also the sending and receiving of messages in general. Affected devices also include the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c. In addition, support for devices such as the HTC Desire 500, Lenovo A820, LG Optimus and the Samsung Galaxy S3 and many other models will also be discontinued.

With the setting, the WhatsApp development team should be able to better exploit the possibilities of newer devices. In the future, WhatsApp will only be available in the App Store for devices on which iOS 12 or later is installed. It is recommended that you backup your chat history and export your chats before December 31st to avoid losing them.
