Mick Schumacher shares new family photo

Since Michael Schumacher's skiing accident around nine years ago, his family has lived a secluded life. Now son Mick gives his fans a rare private insight.

In a few days it will be the ninth anniversary of Michael Schumacher’s devastating accident. On December 29, 2013, the Formula 1 legend fell while skiing and sustained serious injuries. Since then, the seven-time world champion has not appeared in public.

His wife Corinna Schumacher and their two children, Mick and Gina-Maria, rarely give an insight into their private life as a family. Although the 23-year-old and his two-year-old sister are active on social media, they mainly document their own sporting careers as racing drivers and western riders on their Instagram profiles.

Christmas greetings from the living room at home

Now Mick Schumacher has made an exception and given his approximately 3.3 million followers a rare private insight. The Formula 1 star posted a photo from the living room at home and wishes his fans “Merry Christmas” alongside Mama Corinna and sister Gina.

The three family members are sitting on a couch, their dogs lying at their feet. Three illuminated Christmas trees can be seen in the background. Mick grins at the camera in a cream wool sweater, dark trousers and white sneakers. Beside him, Gina is beaming, wearing a patterned silk blouse and Chanel slippers. Corinna Schumacher is dressed all in black and smiles a little cautiously.

Fans between joy and sadness

The 23-year-old’s followers react in large numbers to the family photo. It’s already been liked more than 600,000 times, with lots of happy comments and heart emojis under the post. But of course Michael Schumacher’s absence in the picture does not go unnoticed. “One is missing”, “Merry Christmas to Michael too” or “I wish dad was in the photo too” can be read, among other things.

“I absolutely respect your privacy, but sometimes I just want to know if Michael can talk, if he can eat, if he can walk, if he can follow his son’s races?” A user writes wistfully to the post and gets much approval. What consequences the skiing accident had for the racing legend is not known. The family keeps details about Michael Schumacher’s condition under lock and key.
