The fighter jets of Pakistan Air Force bombed militant positions in North Waziristan, killing and injuring many terrorists.

Islamabad, Jan 21/Nationalturk – After security forces suffered heavy casualties in recent attacks by carried out by terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), fighter jets of Pakistan Air Force bombed militant positions in North Waziristan, killing many terrorists.

Pakistan media quoted military officials as saying the fighter jets were targeting militant positions around Mir Ali area, Hamzoni village, Mohammadkhel village of Dattakhel tehsil in North Waziristan, Shera Tala area, Harmaz village, Moski village and other areas of North Waziristan.

“After the aerial bombing, army used helicopter gunships to shell militant hideouts and positions”.

“The aerial bombing had not been planned before. Pakistan air force fighter jets were called to hit hideouts of the militants involved in recent attacks on security forces,” a military official was quoted as saying by the media.

‘24 militants were killed, 15 injured’

Pakistan newspaper, The Dawn quoted military sources as saying that 24 militants were killed and 15 others wounded in the bombing.

It was for the first time after Pakistan army signed ceasefire agreement with local Taliban chiefs in 2007 that Air Force jets conducted aerial strikes on militant positions in the region.

30 security men were killed in 2 days in TTP attacks

The air strikes took place after pressure on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif increase to take tougher action against the Taliban terrorist following attacks on security forces and civilians. At least 30 security men were killed in two days (Sunday and Monday) in terrorist attacks in the country.

North Waziristan is one of the seven regions in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) governed by tribal laws. The insurgency led by TTP plagues the region and the area is known to be infested with militants, including those from Al Qaeda and other militant groups.

The region, which lies along the Pak-Afghan border, also comes under attacks from US drones frequently which target militant hideouts in the area.
