Pakistan is probing foreign hand in recent terror attack on country’s busiest airport in port city of Karachi in which 39 people including 10 terrorists were killed.

Islamabad, June 13/Nationalturk – Pakistan security and intelligence agencies are probing foreign hand in recent terror attack on country’s busiest airport in port city of Karachi.

A group of 10-well armed  terrorists had stormed Karachi airport in Sindh province of the country on Sunday. At least 39 people including 10 attackers were killed in the attack. The flights from the airport remained suspended for over 20 hours.

Pakistan’s dreaded militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. An Uzbek militant group operating in Pakistan’s northwest tribal areas IMU has also claimed that it played a key role in the attack. Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) claimed that all ten terrorists involved in the attack were its members.

“The investigations are under way to find out the involvement of a foreign hand in the recent attack at the Karachi Airport,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said.

She said the investigations are under way. “We are not in the habit of making allegations without proper investigations”.

“When we have the results of the investigations, we will proceed from there,” Aslam said.

Over dozen suspects detained for questioning

Police and other security agencies have detained over 18 people for their alleged involvement in Sunday’s terrorist attack on Karachi airport.

“We conducted raids in slum areas popularly known as Afghan Camp and Ganna Mandi on the Super Highway, near Sohrab Goth in Karachi. During the raids, we detained 18 suspects and a majority of them are Afghan nationals,” a Pakistani police official was quoted as saying by Pakistan newspaper,  The Express Tribune.

Without disclosing identity of the suspects, they said they were moved to an undisclosed location for further questioning.

He said the suspects were being questioned to ascertain their involvement in the  terrorist attack.

The police officer said investigations are going on and many more arrests will take place in the coming days.
