Pakistan shows improvement in global corruption level index

The corruption level in Islamic republic of Pakistan has declined and the country has ranked 127 in the survey conducted by Transparency International.

Islamabad, Dec 3/Nationalturk – In a good news for country facing so many issues, the corruption level in Islamic republic of Pakistan has declined and the country has ranked 127 in the survey conducted by Transparency International.

Pakistan, whose ranking on the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) had gone from 42nd most corrupt country in 2011 to 33rd in 2012  has improved by around 12 points in 2013. The country is now ranked 48th from the bottom among the list of countries in the 2013 Corruption Perceptions Index.

Pakistan ranked 127th  corrupt country

The country was ranked 127th this year. It was ranked 139 in 2009, 143 in 2010, 134 in 2011 and 139 in 2012.

The 2013 index ranks countries by their perceived levels of public sector corruption. The index assigns scores of between one and 100, 1 being highly corrupt and 100 clean.

Early this year, the Transparency International in its Global Corruption Barometer 2013 report had said that Pakistan’s religious bodies, military and media respectively had been found as the three least corrupt institutions in the list of 12 organisations.

The same report had said that the most corrupt in Pakistan were from the government and politics.

Somalia most corrupt; Denmark least corrupt country

As per Transparency International’s 2013 Corruption Perceptions Index list, Somia is the most corrupt country in the world and figures at bottom of the list.

As per the index, Somalia is followed by North Korea (175th rank), Afghanistan (175th rank), Sudan (174th rank),  South Sudan (173rd rank), Libya (172nd rank), Iraq (171st rank), Uzbekistan (168th rank), Turkmenistan (168th rank) and Syria (168th rank).

Similarly, Denmark and New Zealand have been ranked as No 1 least corrupt country in the world. They are followed by Sweden (3rd rank), Finland (3rd rank), Norway (5th rank), Singapore (5th rank), Switzerland (7th rank), Netherland (8th rank), Australia (9th rank), and Canada (9th rank).

Germany was placed at 12th rank, a notch better than 2012. However, Japan slipped one place to 18th rank. United States and China remained unchanged from 2012 levels at 19th and 80th place respectively.
