Prince Andrew wants to be ‘full member’ of royal family

Prince Andrew wants to be a full member of the British royal family again. He was discredited when a woman accused him of sexually abusing her as a minor.

The victim, Virginia Giuffre, made a report. Andrew vehemently denied, but nevertheless agreed to a multimillion-euro settlement to avoid a lawsuit.

Most cherished title

Andrew has asked Queen Elizabeth for reparation as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, according to The Telegraph. He would also lobby to be allowed to participate again as a royal at official events.

“The Grenadier Guards colonelship was his most cherished title and Andrew wants it back,” a source told the British newspaper. He reports that the prince has also urged Elizabeth that his daughters, the princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, would become working royals.

Most important to Andrew, however, is his status as Royal Highness. He also wants that title back. In addition, he is still ninth in the line of succession to the throne. This includes a role as Counselor of State. Usually, that role is filled by the husband of the incumbent monarch and the next four adults in the line of succession, currently Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry and, therefore, Andrew. The position includes all kinds of privileges, which is why the disgraced royal wants to be a working member of the royal family again.

Last word with Elizabeth

Whether that will happen is highly questionable. Elizabeth has the last word on it, but Charles is said to have already indicated that he doesn’t feel like it. There is talk within the family about a position for the now 62-year-old Andrew, but what that should look like is still unclear.

Tomorrow Prince Andrew will be seen in public for the first time in a long time. He and other members of the royal family attend the annual Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle. It will be his first official appearance since Prince Philip’s memorial service in March.
