Princess Charlène and Prince Albert mourn the loss of loved ones

The Monegasque royals mourn the loss of a close confidant. Albert and Charlène communicated this in an official letter.

Prince Albert and Princess Charlène are saddened by the loss of Archbishop Emeritus of Monaco, Monseigneur Bernard Barsi. The couple have posted an official cable on Instagram to commemorate the minister who passed away suddenly. On December 24, 2022, he had held a mass for prison inmates in Nice. A little later he was hospitalized there in L’Archet after suffering a heart attack, four days later he died there at the age of 80.

According to the release, Nice-born Barsi was popular in the region, where he held various municipal offices. Pope John Paul II finally appointed him Archbishop of Monaco in 2000. In January 2020, Barsi resigned from his position due to age.

He was present at important moments of the royal family

For more than 20 years he accompanied the princely family “in the most important moments of recent history spiritually and pastorally,” it continues. Albert and Charlène now express their heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased “on their own behalf and that of the people of Monaco […]”.

In 2005, Barsi officiated the funeral service for Prince Rainier III, the father of Prince Albert, Princess Caroline and Princess Stéphanie. Then in 2011 he married Albert and Charlène. Barsi also presided over the 2015 christening of Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, the royal couple’s twins – to name just a few significant moments for the Monegasque royal family.

Many users comment on the announcement of Barsi’s death from the Princely House. They express their condolences and write what a “great man” he was.
