Putin’s war heroes are said to be actors only

Vladimir Putin ushered in the new year with a speech on Russian state television. But some observers are suspicious of his accompaniment at the performance.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been accused of using actors in military uniforms instead of real soldiers to appear on state television during his New Year’s speech. Pictures and videos shared on social networks by opponents of the regime, among others, are intended to prove this. A blonde woman in particular, who can be seen at Putin’s side, comes into focus.

During his nine-minute New Year’s speech, which focused primarily on the Ukraine war, Putin appeared to be standing in the middle of a group of soldiers. According to the Russian media, he awarded military personnel for their services. The blond soldier can be clearly seen next to him. Videos also show her accepting an award. But could it be that Putin’s “heroine” wasn’t at the front at all?

“A soldier, a sailor, a devout Christian”

The woman is said to have been present at Putin’s public appearances several times – albeit in different roles and with different outfits. The Belarusian journalist Tadeusz Giczan wrote on Twitter: “A soldier, a sailor, a devout Christian. God guides in a mysterious way.” Giczan also shared photos showing the same blonde woman, including at Putin’s Easter speech.

Other observers wrote that they had already spotted the woman in a photo of a group of soldiers’ mothers whom Putin had met. There was also speculation that she could be a politician from Putin’s ruling party, United Russia.

Other observers said they could also recognize some of the faces of the male soldiers in other photos. Kremlin critic Igor Sushko claimed that Putin never risks being around ordinary Russian people.

In his speech, Putin again accused the West of “lying”. “Western elites have hypocritically assured all of us for years of their peaceful intentions, including solving the most serious conflict in Donbass,” Putin said. “The West lied about peace and was preparing for aggression. And today it’s not even ashamed to admit it openly.”

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. However, the Russian leadership only describes its own war of aggression as a “special military operation” and justifies it time and again by saying that it only forestalled an attack by Ukraine.

Whether the people in the pictures with the Russian President are actually actors can only be speculated about.
