Schalke 2 Galatasaray 3:Drogba and his friends in the quarter finals Champions League, Highlights Video / CL News

Galatasaray beating to Schalke in Germany with three goals and came in the quarter finals. Burak Yilmaz was a shining star on the match.

Galatasaray reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League after edging out valiant Schalke at the Veltins-Arena.

Despite taking an early lead through Roman Neustadter, the German side were ultimately undone by strikes from Hamit Altintop and Burak Yilmaz just before the break.

The striker — who helped fire Chelsea to their famous triumph in Munich last season — is in the quarter-finals after Galatasaray won a thriller in Germany.

Goal-machine Burak Yilmaz notched his EIGHTH European goal of the campaign to effectively seal a dramatic away goals win for the Turkish champions at the Veltin Arena.

Gala set the early pace in Gelsenkirchen and Selcuk Inan played a tidy one-two with Drogba on 13 minutes — before firing too close to Timo Hildebrand.

But the Bundesliga side took a shock lead when Fernando Muslera and his defence twice failed to clear a corner, allowing Roman Neustadter to slot home from deep inside the area.

Teemu Pukki — the Finnish replacement for Lewis Holtby — then shot straight at Muslera after twisting and turning his way in from the left.

All was quiet for the Germans, but they were shaken when Emmanuel Eboue rampaged down the right before picking out Wesley Sneijder after 37 minutes.

The Netherlands star smashed his snapshot inches wide of the right-hand post.

Their wait for an equaliser was over, though, when former Schalke star Hamit Altintop haunted his old club with a thundering drive just inside the same piece of woodwork a minute later.

Burak Yilmaz turned the game on its head soon after — flicking past the hapless Hildebrand from 12 yards after chasing down well.

Schalke started brightly after the break, with 19-year-old duo Pukki and Julian Draxler causing constant problems at the back for Gala.

The latter so nearly equalised on the night when he tricked his way past three men before curling his effort narrowly wide.

Then Michel Bastos, on loan from Lyon, forced home at the far post after Marco Hoger’s shot smashed back off the bar just after the hour.

Schalke pushed and pushed — but Gala held on to the most slender of leads with Drogba and the substituted Sneijder barely involved.

Galatasaray ace Sneijder said: “We definitely deserved it — we showed a lot of spirit.”

Altintop admitted: “We were the luckier team today.”

Nerves were finally settled in the FIFTH minute of injury time as Nordin Amrabat found himself clean through on the break.

The substitute needed two opportunities to force past Hildebrand — but it was enough to kill the tie and take Galatasaray through.
