A Pakistani soldier, who had allegedly crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Indian administered Kashmir, was killed by Indian troops last evening.

New Delhi, Feb 15/Nationalturk – In the fresh incident of tension along Line of Control (LoC), the defacto border between nuclear armed India and Pakistan in Indian administered Kashmir, a Pakistani soldier, who had allegedly crossed the borderline, was killed by Indian troops last evening.

Indian army spokesman while giving details of the incident, said, “Indian troops guarding the LoC in Poonch sector detected some suspicious movement in Nowshera area. Indian troops challenged the ‘intruder’, who had crossed the LoC. Instead of surrendering, he fired from automatic weapon. The fire was returned by the Indian soldiers and in the ensuing firefight, the intruder was killed”.

He said the intruder turned out to be a Pakistani soldier. “He was wearing a combat uniform and an AK-47 rifle was recovered from his possession.”

Pakistan media reports quoted army officials as confirming that the dead ‘intruder’ was a Pakistani soldier.

‘A Pakistani soldier had crossed LoC’

“One of Pakistani soldier Sepoy Ikhlaq had mistakenly crossed the LoC yesterday. Pakistan has demanded that the soldier or his body be returned – as the case may be,” reports said.

Pakistani security officials said contact has been established with Indian army authorities. “We have sought return of the body of the soldier,” they said.

Meanwhile, Indian army spokesman said Pakistan Army’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMOs) request that body of deceased Pakistani soldier be returned has been accepted by the Indian side. “The body of the dead Pakistani soldier would soon be handed over to Pakistan army,” he added.

The incident has taken place a month after escalation of tension between India and Pakistani over cross-border raids. Three Pakistani and two Indian soldiers were killed in these raids. India had claimed that Pakistani had beheaded two of its soldiers and taken head of one of them with them, which has not been returned yet.
