Ankara / NationalTurk – Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet SimSek admitted the taxes for earthquake are used by the government not for earthquake precautional purposes. Turkish governments has funded the tax for more road building, health and education programme, the minister declared yesterday in a press conference.

The earthquake tax was adopted as a temporary law, after the 1999 Marmara Earthquake, then The AKP Government (Justice and Development Party) made the tax permanent. After the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that has devastated the eastern province of Van and the nearby region the faith of the tax stirred a contraversy in Turkey.
