Pakistan former military ruler and president Parvez Musharraf, who is presently undergoing treatment in Army hospital, will not tomorrow appear before a special court hearing treason charges against, his lawyer has said.

Islamabad, Jan 5/Nationalturk – The lawyer of Pakistan former military ruler and president Parvez Musharraf, who is presently undergoing treatment in Army hospital, has said the former strongman won’t appear personally tomorrow (January 6) in a special court, which is set to hear treason charges against him for imposing emergency in November 2007.

“Pervez Musharraf is ill. He would not appear in the special court tomorrow,” Ahmed Raza Kasuri, lawyer of the former strongman, told Pakistani TV channel, Geo TV.

He said it is known to the court and entire world that Musharraf is ill and undergoing treatment in Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi. “He is not a common man and entire world knows him”.

Musharraf was rushed to Army hospital on Jan 2

The 70-year-old Musharraf was rushed to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology in Rawalpindi on January 2 after he complained of chest pain and uneasiness while being transported under heavy guard to hear treason charges against him at a special court in Islamabad.

“If I couldn’t get the medical report of Musharraf from the hospital today, then I would be requesting the special court verbally to grant him exemption from appearing in the court,” Kasuri said.

Musharraf is due to appear in court on January 6 and face treason charges under Article 6 of Pakistan constitution for  imposing an emergency in the country in November 2007 and detaining judges of the superior courts.

‘Military upset over treatment being meted out to Musharraf’

This is for the first time in Pakistan’s history that a former military ruler has been put on trial for treason. It is being said Pakistan’s powerful military is upset over it and wants to save their former chief by encouraging elected government to enter into a deal with the former military ruler and allow him to travel abroad.

Musharraf’s wife Begum Sehba Musharraf yesterday requested the government to remove his (Musharraf’s) name from the Exit Control List (ECL) as his medics and aides consider shifting him abroad for treatment.

Her application listed various reasons including the former military ruler’s illness to get his name removed from the ECL.

It contended that the Pervez Musharraf wanted to travel abroad for health reasons along with his family members.
