NATO responded with drastic proposals on Ukraine crisis: Europe should upgrade, the armies improve their operational readiness. The situation in the east of the country is worrisome, according to Secretary General Rasmussen, Russia had to withdraw.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has warned of an invasion of eastern Ukraine Russia. “The events in the eastern Ukraine give cause for great concern,” he said Tuesday at an event in Paris. “I urge Russia to show restraint,” Rasmussen added.

“Any further movement into the eastern Ukraine would be a serious aggravation of the situation rather than defuse those that we all desire,” said the NATO chief. “Should Russia continue to intervene, this would be a historical mistake. This would have serious consequences for our relations with Russia and Moscow would isolate internationally.”

Rasmussen called for the withdrawal of the stationed on the border with Ukraine Russian troops. According to the NATO military leaders are ready there 35,000 to 40,000 Russian soldiers.

As a countermeasure to the Russian action, NATO must improve its responsiveness, Rasmussen said. Among other things which have never used Rapid Reaction Force (NATO Response Force / NRF) should be placed in a state of high readiness.

Rasmussen also urged governments to spend more money on defense. “The Europeans have too much and disarmed too long,” he said. “This is the moment to stop the cuts and reverse the current trend again.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry warned its part, the transitional government in Kiev, not to let the situation escalate further. “We call on you to immediately cease all military preparations, which could lead to the outbreak of civil war,” the ministry said. Allegations of the United States, the protests in eastern Ukraine were controlled by Moscow, dismissed the Foreign Office.
