India, Pak should resume normal trade, travel across LoC: US

“We are concerned about reports of violence across the LoC in Kashmir. We urge both countries to take steps to end exchanges of fire and resume normal trade and travel across the Line of Control”, United States State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said at the daily briefing at Washington last evening.

She said US has consistently supported attempts between India and Pakistan to find a positive way forward between them and to work on issues of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei has also expressed concern over the firing incident between Indian and Pakistani soldiers.

“We hope India and Pakistan will hold talks and solve their differences in a calm and proper manner following a firing incident in Kashmir,” he told a news briefing in Beijing.

He said as a neighbour and friend of both countries, China hopes India and Pakistan will work together to maintain peace and stability in south Asia.

Indian and Pakistani soldiers are observing ceasefire along LoC and International Border in Indian administered Kashmir since November 2003. The ceasefire has been holding despite some aberrations from both sides.
