{"id":11288,"date":"2011-03-15T13:30:52","date_gmt":"2011-03-15T11:30:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=11288"},"modified":"2011-03-15T13:30:52","modified_gmt":"2011-03-15T11:30:52","slug":"radiation-fears-japan-blast-51839","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/radiation-fears-japan-blast-51839\/","title":{"rendered":"Radiation fears after Japan blast"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/japan-blast.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11289\" title=\"Radiation fears after Japan blast\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/japan-blast-280x155.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/japan-blast-280x155.jpg 280w, https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/japan-blast.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/><\/a>Radiation fears after Japan blast<\/h1>\n<p>Radiation from Japan&#8217;s quake-stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant has reached harmful levels, the government says.<\/p>\n<p>The warning comes after the plant was rocked by a third blast which appears to have damaged one of the reactors&#8217; containment systems for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>If it is breached, there are fears of more serious radioactive leaks.<\/p>\n<p>Officials have extended the danger zone, warning residents within 30km (18 miles) to evacuate or stay indoors.<\/p>\n<p>The crisis has been prompted by last Friday&#8217;s 9.0-magnitude quake and tsunami in north-eastern Japan.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday morning, reactor 2 became the third to explode in four days at the Fukushima Daiichi plant.<\/p>\n<p>A fire also briefly broke out at the plant&#8217;s reactor 4, and is believed to have caused radioactive leaks.<\/p>\n<p>Reactor 4 had been shut down before the quake for maintenance, but its spent nuclear fuel rods are still stored on the site.<\/p>\n<p>Radiation levels in the Japanese capital &#8211; 250km (155 miles) away &#8211; were reported to be higher than normal, but officials said there were no health dangers.<\/p>\n<p>Tokyo residents have been stocking up on supplies, with some stores selling out of items such as food, water, face masks and candles.<\/p>\n<p>Housewife Mariko Kawase, 34, told AFP news agency: &#8220;I am shopping now because we may not be able to go out due to the radiation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In other developments:<\/p>\n<p>* A 70-year-old woman has been rescued alive from rubble in the coastal town of Otsuchi, five days after disaster<br \/>\n* The Nikkei share index tumbled again, ending 10.55% lower, as the central bank pumped almost $100bn (\u00a362bn) more cash into the financial system, a day after its record $183bn intervention<br \/>\n* Ninety-one countries have offered aid to Japan, ranging from blankets to search dogs and military transport aircraft<\/p>\n<p>In a televised address, Prime Minister Naoto Kan said: &#8220;There is still a very high risk of more radiation coming out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>BBC<\/p>\n<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #f00;\">Error, group does not exist!
