School-age children\u2019s increasingly premature and uninhibited contact with sex involves camera phones and the internet. TV, the web, social networks and videoclips all seem to be speeding up young people\u2019s sexual maturity. A report from Italy\u2019s national health institute (ISS) points out that \u201cthe age of first sexual intercourse has fallen to 13-14 years\u201d. In the mid 1970s, that age was 20-21 years. Today\u2019s youngsters, however, often favour exhibitionism over desire, turning mobile phones into Big Brother\u2019s watching eyes.<\/p>\n

We met Andrea, 16, who studies at a scientific secondary school in northern Italy. Andrea showed off his videos to our cameras with a touch of pride. He told us that he took some clips himself and then swapped them with other teenagers. Once upon a time, it was football cards but today\u2019s kids swap hard-core videos of their classmates. One clip features a 14-year-old girl. The teacher hasn\u2019t arrived in class yet and Maria accepts a challenge from the other students: \u201cShow us whether you\u2019ve had a boob job\u201d. A few moments later, the class is clustering around, mobiles at the ready to immortalise the strip show that Maria performs three or four times for her sniggering classmates. Maria herself is laughing and waving like a film star. Andrea thinks it\u2019s quite normal when he shows us a girl sitting behind her desk and simulating \u2013 or perhaps not even simulating \u2013 oral sex with a classmate. The next video shows the teacher explaining to the class while in the back row of desks, a girl\u2019s hand is busy at something that has little to do with schoolwork.<\/p>\n

Young girls earn money from sex videos<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s only a short step from shooting videos at school to webcams. Marina, 16, has been taking her clothes off on Skype in exchange for mobile top-ups for the past two years. The first time was when she answered a message on Facebook eloquently entitled: \u201cWanted. Girls for sale. Web-based work. No commitment\u201d. She\u2019s earning money and the admiration of her peers for very little effort. At least, that\u2019s the way she sees it. \u201cThese young people are unaware of the significant risks in this sort of behaviour\u201d, says privacy guarantor Francesco Pizzetti. \u201cThey ought to know that one day these videos could come to the notice of their employer, the father of the boy they want to get engaged to or even their fianc\u00e9. It is difficult, if not impossible, to erase a document from the web. But there are also problems of a legal nature. Publishing videos of a female classmate on the web can constitute an offence of pornography, corrupting a minor or similar which has to be answered for at the public prosecutor\u2019s office\u201d.<\/p>\n
