{"id":13805,"date":"2011-09-08T17:29:10","date_gmt":"2011-09-08T14:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=13805"},"modified":"2011-09-08T17:29:10","modified_gmt":"2011-09-08T14:29:10","slug":"guatemala-election-violence-2539","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/guatemala-election-violence-2539\/","title":{"rendered":"Guatemala: 66 Cities at Risk of Election-Related Violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/guatemala-violencia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13806\" title=\"Guatemala: 66 Cities at Risk of Election-Related Violence\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/guatemala-violencia.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"189\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<h2>At least 66 of Guatemala&#8221;s 333 cities are at risk for violence during Sunday&#8221;s presidential elections, the Human Rights Attorney&#8221;s Office (PDH) alerted.<\/h2>\n<p>The PDH created a risk map to mark the regions where which problems could arise during the elections, identifying 17 of the country&#8217;s 22 departments, most of them indigenous populations.<\/p>\n<p>Conflicts between communities and security forces, drug trafficking and changes to the electoral rolls were the main sourcs of conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities presented a security plan to be implemented Friday which includes the protection of polling places and infrastructure, such as bridges and electricity towers, as well as citizen surveillance.<\/p>\n<p>According to Interior Minister Carlos Menocal, the plan also providees for protection against possible attacks on international electoral observers, harbors and embassies.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Electoral Supreme Court announced that 95 percent of the process for the transmission of electoral figures on Sunday was guaranteed.<\/p>\n<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #f00;\">Error, group does not exist!
