Russia cautious on Arab League's Syria plan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Russian foreign ministry announced his country’s willingness to analyse the Arab League proposal for a joint peacekeeping mission in Syria with the UN, shows concern that violence in Syria would hinder the ‘ good intentions’. Syria News<\/h1>\n

DAMASCUS \/ NationalTurk – Russia announced its hesitant willingness to participate in a joint UN peacekeeping mission in Syria while EU voices strong support for the mission as UK point out \u00a0its objection to Western troops should be located in Syria\u00a0from non-Western countries.\u00a0Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also stated that violence in Syria should be reduced before any progress in the peacekeeping mission can be achieved.<\/p>\n

Russia indicates\u00a0\u00a0a cease-fire would have to take hold in Syria before peacekeepers could be deployed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile EU backs an Arab League call for a U.N. mission and urged the U.N. Security Council to act in order to stop the violence in Syria.<\/p>\n

Lavrov suggested that the foreign ministers of the League of Arab States took a decision to start an initiative to send a peacekeeping mission to Syria – a joint mission between the Arab League and the United Nations, however the Russian Foreign Minister added\u00a0the proposal must be studied carefully before peacekeeping troops could be located in its most important Middle Eastern ally.<\/p>\n

Russia cautious while\u00a0China backs Arab League ‘s plan in Syria<\/h2>\n

Russia and China, two members of United Nations who vetoed the much-debated Syria resolution are backing Arab Leagues’s plan for Syria. China backs up the plan while Russia cautously studies the initiative and counts the plan is clarified before any action should be taken by Arab League.<\/p>\n

‘ We are studying this initiative, and we are counting on our friends in the Arab League to offer us clarification on some of its clauses,’ Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov told yesterday after meeting\u00a0Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahyan,\u00a0his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates in Moscow. ‘ In order to deploy a peacekeeping mission, you need the agreement of the receiving side,’ Lavrov stated after the meeting.<\/p>\n

Heavy clashes continue between Syrian rebels and Assad forces in Syria<\/h3>\n

Within hours of an Arab League statement, Syria\u2019s Army resumed its shelling of Baba Amr, a rebel bastion in the central city of Homs, while ground forces swept through the southern Daraa region arresting dissidents, stated the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Syrian National Council (SNC), Burhan Ghalioun, has announced Syria is on the threshold of a big clash between the al-Assad administration and the Free Syrian Army. However, the Free Syrian Army has limited means to protect civilians in the struggle against the Syrian regular army, said Ghalioun yesterday.
