{"id":22776,"date":"2012-07-29T15:37:45","date_gmt":"2012-07-29T12:37:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=22776"},"modified":"2012-07-29T15:37:45","modified_gmt":"2012-07-29T12:37:45","slug":"ebola-warning-ugandan-officials-confirm-14-dead-22776","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/ebola-warning-ugandan-officials-confirm-14-dead-22776\/","title":{"rendered":"Ebola Warning: Ugandan Officials Confirm 14 Dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/ebola-virus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-22783\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/ebola-virus-e1343565271931.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"610\" height=\"343\" \/><\/a><\/h1>\n<h1>The deadly Ebola virus has killed 14 people in western Uganda this month, health officials have confirmed.<\/h1>\n<p>The announcement ends weeks of speculation about the cause of a strange disease that had many people fleeing their homes &#8211; officials had previously dismissed the suggestion of Ebola as &#8220;merely a rumour&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The officials and a World Health Organisation representative confirmed the report at a news conference in the country&#8217;s capital, Kampala.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Laboratory investigations done at the Uganda Virus Research Institute&#8230;have confirmed that the strange disease reported in Kibaale is indeed Ebola hemorrhagic fever,&#8221; the two groups said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n<p>Kibaale is a district in midwestern Uganda, where people in recent weeks have been troubled by a mysterious illness that seemed to have come from nowhere.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/uganda-map.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-22784\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/uganda-map-280x157.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/uganda-map-280x157.jpg 280w, https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/uganda-map.jpg 522w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/><\/a>Ugandan health officials had been perplexed as well, and spent weeks conducting laboratory tests that were at first inconclusive.<\/p>\n<p>Health officials told reporters in Kampala that the 14 dead were among 20 reported with the disease. Among those who died were a woman and her four-month-old baby.
