{"id":2482,"date":"2009-12-15T08:22:20","date_gmt":"2009-12-15T14:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=2482"},"modified":"2009-12-15T08:24:42","modified_gmt":"2009-12-15T14:24:42","slug":"2-killed-kurdish-protests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/2-killed-kurdish-protests\/","title":{"rendered":"2 killed, several injured in Kurdish protests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Two protesters have been shot dead and several have been wounded during a pro-Kurdish demonstration in South East Turkey. <\/strong><\/p>\n[media id=56 width=610 height=340]\n<p>A shop keeper opened fire on the crowd when the protesters attacked his shop. The crowd were protesting against the banning of Turkey&#8217;s main Kurdish party the Democratic Society Party (DTP).<\/p>\n<p>The protests were a direct result of the Turkish constitutional court banning the DTP for having links to the PKK terrorist organisation.<\/p>\n<p>The violence in the city of Mus where most citizens are Kurdish came after several days of protests in the eastern cities of Turkey.<\/p>\n<p>The local media have said large crowds had attacked shops that were open because the protesters expected the shops to be closed in solidarity with the banned party.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2483\" title=\"Kurdish protest\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Kurdish-protest.jpg\" alt=\"Kurdish protest\" width=\"255\" height=\"191\" \/>The DTP, which has 21 MPs, said it would withdraw from Turkey&#8217;s parliament to protest against the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The party was the latest in a series of 10 pro-Kurdish parties to be closed down by the Turkish authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Four months ago, Turkey&#8217;s government promised a new beginning in the state&#8217;s relationship with its largest minority, the Kurds.
