Melanie Masson has become the second person to be eliminated from The X Factor 2012 in tonight\u2019s results show.<\/p>\n

Last night saw the remaining twelve X Factor finalists perform live for the second time, singing songs with a Love and Heartbreak theme.<\/p>\n

This evening, Dermot O\u2019Leary revealed that District3 and Melanie Masson had received the fewest public votes and would have to sing again.<\/p>\n

In the sing off, District3 performed Bryan Adams hit (Everything I Do) I Do It for You while Melanie performed Duffy\u2019s Stay With Me Baby.<\/p>\n

It was then over to the judges to decide which acts to save.<\/p>\n

Both Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh stuck by their own acts, leaving Nicole and Tulisa to decide who would remain in the competition.<\/p>\n

Tulisa said: \u201cI\u2019m going with my heart, and the my heart is with the lads, so I\u2019m sending home Melanie.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the casting vote, Nicole said: \u201cFirst of all, District3 did an amazing job up thee, you knocked it out the park. You killed it tonight, I\u2019m so impressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cMelanie, I have to go off the save me song that I saw and I have to go with my heart and you are the oldest in this competition and I felt it so I am sending home District3.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the judges\u2019 votes tied, it was over to deadlock for the second week in the row.<\/p>\n

With the fewest votes, Melanie lost out in the public vote and was eliminated.<\/p>\n

Strictly Come Dancing smashed The X Factor 2012 in the ratings last night, with almost ten million viewers.<\/p>\n

The second live show of both series saw very different numbers.<\/p>\n

Strictly soared week on week, up nearly a million viewers to 9.91 million for its two hour show between 6:30PM and 8:30PM.<\/p>\n

The X Factor however declined week on week \u2013 despite plenty of press \u2013 with 8.68 million viewers.<\/p>\n

Even including those watching on ITV1+1 an hour later, the numbers were still down nearly a million on Strictly Come Dancing, and down over two million on last year\u2019s equivalent show.<\/p>\n

Strictly peaked with over 11 million viewers, while The X Factor peaked with just under 10 million.<\/p>\n

This evening\u2019s show will see the second elimination of the series, as well as performances from US country star Taylor Swift and former X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Strictly Come Dancing will air its pre-recorded results show this evening just before the X Factor, featuring a performance from the Scissor Sisters.<\/p>\n
