Army Wednesday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control (LoC) in border district of Kupwara by killing two militants. Three Indian soldiers were also killed in the firefight.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Srinagar, Nov 14 \/ NationalTurk – A major infiltration bid was foiled in Nowgam sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district after troops noticed movement of militants near the LoC, \u00a0Army spokesman said.<\/p>\n

He said soldiers detected movement in the Nowgam sector last evening. \u201cThe militants, who were five to six in number, were signaled to stop. However, they fired from automatic weapons towards the army men. The fire was returned by the army men, triggering an encounter\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said the fierce exchange of fire took place between the two sides and it continued for several hours. \u201cIn the ensuing gunfight, two militants and three army men – Sepoy Bhupinder, Sepoy Mahendra Pal and Sepoy Uday Singh \u2013 were killed\u201d.<\/p>\n

The spokesman said bodies of two militants have been recovered. \u201cWe have also recovered 2 AK 47 rifles and some other ammunition from the area\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said two army men were also injured in the firefight and have been hospitalized.<\/p>\n

The army men have launched a massive combing and search operation in the area to flush out the remaining militants. \u201cIt is not known whether they managed to return back to Pakistan administered Kashmir or sneaked into this side\u201d.<\/p>\n

This is the second infiltration bid foiled by troops near the LoC within a week. On Friday, troops killed four militants while attempting to sneak into the Valley in Keran sector.<\/p>\n

Sources said following the infiltration bid, the soldiers have intensified vigil along the LoC. \u00a0\u201cThe army men have been asked to increase vigil along the LoC as intelligence reports suggest that groups of militants may try to sneak into Kashmir to create disturbances,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
