Turkey's PM Tayyip Erdogan slams Turkish drama series Magnificent Century<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Turkey\u2019s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan is furious about the historical Turkish TV series Magnificent Century which he claims to have distorted Ottoman history.<\/h1>\n

Ankara \/ NationalTurk – ‘These portrayal of Suleyman the magnificent and the sultans and sons are not our ancestors who have been portrayed in this TV series,’ Tayyip claimed during the inauguration of an airport in Kutahya Province, 190 miles west of the capital Ankara. Tayyip Erdogan showed his disdain of the hit TV-show which\u00a0chronicles the life of Suleiman the Magnificent, who ruled the Ottoman Empire in its golden age, has also gained popularity in the Arab World, but according to Turkey Prime Minister Erdogan, the series has tarnished the image of the 16th century longest-reigning Ottoman emperor, Sultan Suleiman, Suleiman the Magnificent.<\/p>\n

In the TV series, started in 2010, scenes which have particularly offended show a young and lusty sultan cavorting in the harem and drinking goblets of wine. These pleasures were frowned upon by the Muslim faithful for whom the Ottomon sultan had religious as well as temporal authority.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe live in a seven-billion-people strong world and we know our role. We go to every place that our ancestors reached on their horsebacks, and we care about these regions,\u201d Tayyip Erdogan stated.<\/p>\n

During the emperor\u2019s reign, the Ottoman Empire reached its zenith, he added. \u201cS\u00fcleyman spent 30 years of his life on the horseback, fighting wars and conquering cities.’ But apparently Tayyip has no clue how S\u00fcleyman the magnificent becomes the father of more than \u00a020 sond and daughters ?<\/p>\n

The Turkish Prime Sinister said he is pursuing a legal case against the TV directors of the Turkish drama.<\/p>\n

Known as the \u201cLawgiver\u201d among Turks, Suleiman is regarded as a sacred character, whose rule from 1520 to 1566 marked the height of the Ottoman military, political and economic power, when it stretched from Budapest to Mecca, Algiers to Baghdad.<\/p>\n
