{"id":3142,"date":"2010-01-09T12:27:18","date_gmt":"2010-01-09T10:27:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/?p=3142"},"modified":"2010-01-09T17:02:54","modified_gmt":"2010-01-09T15:02:54","slug":"togo-footballers-ambushed-in-angola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/togo-footballers-ambushed-in-angola\/","title":{"rendered":"Togo footballers ambushed in Angola"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3143\" title=\"Togo-Football-Team\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nationalturk.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Togo-Football-Team.jpg\" alt=\"Togo-Football-Team\" width=\"251\" height=\"245\" \/>Togo Footballers were ambushed by gunman and fired upon while on their team bus yesterday in Angola where the National side is to participate in the African Cup of Nations.<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>The attack resulted in the coach driver dying instantly, footballers being shot in the kidney and back and seven backroom staff being injured.<\/h2>\n<p>The attack took place while the vehicle crossed from the Republic of Congo into Angola\u2019s oil-rich Cabinda region.<\/p>\n<p>The coach was ferrying the team to the African Cup of Nations, where Togo are due to play Ghana on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the bloodshed the tournament looks set to go ahead though many footballers are wanting to leave the country.<\/p>\n[media id=94 width=610 height=340]\n<p>Clubs of the Togo team have also expressed their unrest on the issue and have said they will pull their players out if the security is not tightened.<\/p>\n<p>Gon\u00e7alves Muandumba is Angola\u2019s sports minister:<br \/>\n\u201cI want to make it clear that the incident is not going to affect the organisation and security of the CAN 2010.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rebel group FLEC has claimed responsibility for the carnage.
