\"\"<\/a>Mehmet Ali Birand, a world-renowned journal chief news editor of private channel Kanal D, died yesterday at the age of 72 due to cardiac arrest.<\/h1>\n

Mehmet Ali Birand underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy in order to replace a stent at the American\u00a0Hospital in Istanbul on Jan. 16 and had been placed in intensive care due to complications.<\/p>\n

A funeral service will be held for Birand at Te\u015fvikiye Mosque tomorrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think that he did not feel much pain because it was a simpe operation,\u201d Birand\u2019s son, Umur Birand, told reporters in front of the hospital. \u201cHe was making arrangements with CNN executive S\u00fcleyman \u00a0Sar\u0131lar for his TV program next Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Turkish media has lost a big journalist, both the press and television,\u201d Do\u011fan Holding Honorary Chairman Ayd\u0131n Do\u011fan said in a televised interview. \u201cHe had a great excitement, success and ability. He is irreplaceable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Do\u011fan TV Holding Chairwoman Arzuhan Do\u011fan Yal\u00e7\u0131nda\u011f said they worked together for a long time without any problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel sorrow like millions of people,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Who is Mehmet Al Birand<\/h2>\n

He was born to \u0130zzet and his wife M\u00fcrvet on 9 December 1941 in Beyoglu, Istanbul. He completed his high school education at Galatasaray High School\u00a0In November 2012,<\/p>\n

Birand began his journalistic career in 1964 by writing in the newspaper Milliyet. In 1992, he joined Show TV and presented the news.<\/p>\n

Mehmet Al Birand began hosting a political show titled The 32nd Day, which was first on TRT in 1985 and then moved to other private TV channels as CNN T\u00fcrk and SHOW TV. He also presented the daily news on CNN T\u00fcrk.<\/p>\n

Before his death in 2013, he worked at Kanal D, hosting the news.<\/p>\n

He also authored several books including 30 S\u0131cak G\u00fcn, Diyet, T\u00fcrkiye\u2019nin Avrupa Maceras\u0131, 12 Eyl\u00fcl 04.00 and Emret Komutan\u0131m.<\/p>\n

M. Ali Birand was also a member of Galatasaray’s board and uncommitted governance council<\/p>\n\n
