The 12th edition of the !f Istanbul International Independent Film Festival 2013 will starts in Istanbul on February 14.<\/h1>\n

Over the past 12 years, !f Istanbul has become synonymous with cutting-edge contemporary cinema and a thriving alternative entertainment culture boosted by its much-talked about !f parties and events.<\/p>\n

The parties have become so popular that they have spawned a mini-festival called !f Music, which will feature parties hosted by Pat Mahoney and Nancy Whang, members of the legendary LCD Soundsystem, on Feb. 9. Hercules and Love Affair will also play subsequent dates.<\/p>\n

The opening film of !f Istanbul will be Leos Carax\u2019s much-anticipated film \u201cHoly Motors.\u201d Carax, the famed director of \u201cThe Lovers On The Bridge\u201d and \u201cBad Blood,\u201d will present \u201cHoly Motors,\u201d filmed after a 13-year hiatus. Starring Denis Lavant, Kylie Minogue and Eva Mendes, \u201cHoly Motors\u201d is a roller-coaster ride that has bewitched viewers and named one of the year\u2019s best films by numerous critics.<\/p>\n

In addition to Carax, !f Istanbul will also host important contemporary filmmakers such as Berlinale Alfred Bauer Award winner \u201cTabu\u201d director Miguel Gomes and Jose Rivera, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of \u201cMotorcycle Diaries,\u201d \u201cLetters to Juliet\u201d and \u201cOn The Road,\u201d a 2013 festival title that was adapted from the cult novel of the same name.<\/p>\n

In addition to these titles, many of the year\u2019s most eagerly anticipated titles will make their Turkey premieres under !f Istanbul\u2019s Galas section.<\/p>\n

Among the films are Xavier Dolan\u2019s \u201cLaurence Anyways;\u201d Ben Lewin\u2019s \u201cThe Sessions;\u201d \u201cAll The Light In The Sky;\u201d Richard Linklater\u2019s \u201cBernie;\u201d Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg\u2019s \u201cCeleste & Jess Forever;\u201d Hong Sang-soo\u2019s \u201cIn Another Country;\u201d Michael Winterbottom\u2019s \u201cEveryday;\u201d Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach\u2019s \u201cFrances Ha;\u201d Lee Daniel\u2019s \u201cThe Paperboy;\u201d \u201cLove Marilyn by Liz Garbus;\u201d David Chase\u2019s \u201cNot Fade Away;\u201d Sion Sono\u2019s \u201cThe Land Of Hope;\u201d Kenneth Lonergan\u2019s \u201cMargaret;\u201d Martin McDonaugh\u2019s \u201cSeven Psychopaths;\u201d Denis C\u00f4t\u00e9\u2019s \u201cVic+Flo Saw a Bear;\u201d Harmony Korine\u2019s \u201cSpring Breakers;\u201d Matteo Garone\u2019s \u201cReality;\u201d Robert B. Weide\u2019s \u201cWoody Allen, A Documentary;\u201d and Reha Erdem\u2019s \u201cAnd from Turkey.\u201d<\/p>\n

!f Istanbul\u2019s \u201cPlay\u201d section, meanwhile, will bring together films that aim to open new ground and suspend exterior time. Deeply personal documentaries such as Sarah Polley\u2019s acclaimed \u201cStories We Tell,\u201d new cult classics such as Peter Strickland\u2019s \u201cBerberian Sound Studio,\u201d the latest animation hits such as Mamoru Hosada\u2019s anime \u201cWolf Children,\u201d and mindful explorations of the world we live in such as \u201cMuseum Hours,\u201d are some of the many films on offer.<\/p>\n

The \u201cLove & Change\u201d section will offer extraordinary films that ask viewers to take a different look at the world. The section also looks at recent events that have gripped the world\u2019s imagination.<\/p>\n

By now a festival staple, !f Istanbul\u2019s \u201cRainbow\u201d section this year includes \u201cBye Bye Blondie,\u201d \u201cCall Me Kuchu,\u201d \u201cJoshua Tree, 1951: A Portrait of James Dean,\u201d \u201cYossi\u201d and the surprise Serbian box-office hit \u201cParade.\u201d<\/p>\n
