Local reports from the Zambian Capital indicate that at least 53 people have been killed in a crash involving a bus and lorry in Zambia.<\/h1>\n

The Zambian Police says the death toll could rise as rescuers have rescued victims who are in critical condition from the wreckage which happened in the north of the capital.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred about 100km (60 miles) north of the capital Lusaka on a two-lane highway known for heavy traffic which many preliminary attributes to probably over speeding or overloading<\/p>\n

The accident is considered one of the worse road disasters in the history of the country due to the casualties involved.<\/p>\n

The bus was operated by the Zambia Postal Service, which provides passenger services on buses which carry post, and was full of people travelling to their destinations.<\/p>\n

A survivor was quoted by local reporters as saying the bus had been swerving to avoid an oncoming vehicle (lorry) which was driving on top speed.<\/p>\n

But the Zambian Police has put out an official statement that it is launch a full scale investigation into the crash to establish the cause of this unfortunate incident<\/p>\n

President Michael Sata extended his government’s deepest condolences to the families of the victims saying his government will console and give the necessary help to the families.<\/p>\n
