South African Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius has been charged with murder after his 30-year-old model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shoot dead local media report he shot his girlfriend four times through a bathroom door.<\/h1>\n

South African Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius was charged with murder on Thursday after his 30-year-old girlfriend was found shot dead at his home in Pretoria.<\/p>\n

South African police said on Thursday that they have charged a 26-year-old man with the murder Pistorius\u2019s girlfriend as well but did not name him.<\/p>\n

Police did not directly name Pistorius as the suspect in accordance with South African law, but did say that he and the victim, Reeva Steenkamp, were the only people in the house at the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n

The incident is said to have taken place between 04:00 and 05:00 local time (02:00-03:00 GMT) according to Police preliminary investigation and the woman had been wounded in her head and upper body with four bullets.<\/p>\n

Paramedics were at the house when police arrived, but she died at the scene and a 9mm pistol was recovered from the crime scene as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no other suspect involved,\u201d police spokesperson Brigadier Denise Beukes said, adding that there had been “previous incidents” of a “domestic nature” at Pistorius’ home.<\/p>\n

The police spokesman also said that the South African Police Service would oppose bail if the suspect requested it.<\/p>\n

Pistorius lawyers for the athlete, who was being held at Boshkop police station in Pretoria, are expected to apply for bail at the hearing.<\/p>\n

However, police have said that they will oppose the application.<\/p>\n

The body of Miss\u00a0Steenkamp, a top South African model, was discovered at the athlete’s property in the Silver Woods gated community in eastern Pretoria on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

She had been shot four times. A 9mm pistol was found at the scene.<\/p>\n

Local media has reported that she was shot through a bathroom door.<\/p>\n

Pistorius, 26, spent the night in custody and was subject to blood-alcohol, DNA and other tests, as forensics experts continued to work at the crime scene at his home in an upmarket gated estate.<\/p>\n

His lawyer Kenny Oldwage said his client was “very well, obviously emotional, but fine”.<\/p>\n

Police were called to Pistorius’s\u00a0home at around 4am on Thursday by neighbours who heard gunshots. He is the only suspect in the case.<\/p>\n\n
