DMK pulls out from Indian government.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Indian government is in crisis after one of the coalition partner DMK pulled out from the ruling alliance on Monday.<\/h1>\n

New Delhi, March 19\/Nationalturk- \u00a0The Indian government is in crisis after one of the coalition partner DMK having 18 MPs pulled out from the ruling alliance on Monday for allowing ‘watering down’ of the US resolution against Sri Lanka at the UNHRC.<\/p>\n

DMK, a regional party from the Tamil Nadu State, had been pressuring Indian government to condemn Sri Lanka for alleged war crimes against ethnic minority Tamils during the island’s civil war.<\/p>\n

“When a situation has been created that will not benefit Tamils, it will be a big harm to the Tamil race for DMK to continue in government. Therefore it has been decided that DMK will withdraw from the cabinet and the coalition,\u201d DMK\u2019s chief M Karunanidhi told reporters today.<\/p>\n

He said despite repeated requests from the party, Indian government failed to meet their demands. \u201cSo we have decided to pull out from the government. All party ministers will quit the government either today or tomorrow,\u201d he said. There are five DMK ministers in Indian government and party has 18 MPs, whose support is vital for survival of the government.<\/p>\n

Karunanidhi, however, said that if Indian government accepts their demands by Friday and reworks the resolution against Sri Lanka then he may reconsider withdrawing support.\u00a0\u201cIf the resolution is introduced in Parliament as desired by us and taken up for discussion, we are ready to change our opinion on withdrawal of support to the government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Earlier, DMK chief had warned that his party would withdraw support from Indian government unless the government supported a resolution at the UNHRC in Geneva that condemned “genocide and war crimes” in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

SL forces ended decades-long civil war in 2009<\/h2>\n

Sri Lankan forces ended a decades-long civil war with a 2009 onslaught against LTTE militants, which has since been dogged by war crime allegations. The UN has estimated that some 40,000 people were killed in the final months of the Sri Lankan civil war, while rights groups put the death toll even higher. Sri Lanka denies that its forces killed civilians.<\/p>\n

According to political observers, if 18 MPs of DMK withdraw support from Indian government, then it government will be left with the support of just 232 MPs in Parliament as against 272. \u201cIn that case, the government will be completely dependent on the support of regional parties,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
