British police believe no third party was involved in the death of former Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, while it was also discovered that his bodyguard had not seen him since Friday evening.<\/p>\n

Boris Berezovsky\u2019s guard was apparently the only person in the house at the time of the oligarch\u2019s death. It has turned out that he hadn\u2019t seen his employer since about 10:30pm Friday evening, which prompted him to force open the locked door of the bathroom, where he discovered Berezovsky\u2019s body on the floor \u2013 not in a bathtub, as believed earlier.<\/p>\n

Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) specialists have given police officers the green light to investigate indoors after finding no harmful chemicals or substances at the property.<\/p>\n

“On leaving the property the personal electronic dosimeter (PED) of the paramedic was triggered. This is a health and safety device used extensively by the emergency services. As a result of this, specialist CBRN officers were asked to confirm that the scene was safe and clear to work in, which they subsequently did,”<\/i>\u00a0a police statement clarified.<\/p>\n

here had also been claims that the tycoon committed suicide, in light of his heavy debts, major unsuccessful lawsuits and a subsequent battle with depression.<\/p>\n

Despite having no evidence to prove anyone else\u2019s involvement in Berezovsky\u2019s death, Thames Valley Police are continuing their investigation.<\/p>\n

“It would be wrong to speculate on the cause of death until the postmortem has been carried out. We do not have any evidence at this stage to suggest third-party involvement,”<\/i>\u00a0goes the statement from Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Brown.<\/p>\n

Berezovsky, claiming he had died of a heart attack, having recently undergone treatment for various health problems in Israel.<\/p>\n

\"BORIS-BEREZOVSKY-DEATH-MANSION\"<\/a>Berezovsky\u2019s last known interview to Forbes magazine revealed just how distraught the former billionaire was. He was avoiding talking about business and politics, instead feeling very nostalgic about returning home to Russia. He claimed he had\u00a0\u201clost meaning in life,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0and that he was very nostalgic about Russia, to which he wanted to return, adding he had\u00a0\u201cunderestimated how important it was to him.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0He spoke about being uncomfortable as an immigrant in the UK.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the news from London, President Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed that recently Berezovsky had been in personal contact, asking the president for forgiveness for his\u201cmistakes\u201d<\/i>\u00a0and permission to return\u00a0\u201cto [his] motherland.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0\u201cSome time ago, maybe a couple of months ago, Berezovsky addressed Putin in a letter, written by him personally, in which he admitted he made a lot of mistakes and was asking for forgiveness and to help him to return to the motherland,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0Peskov told Russia 24 channel.<\/p>\n

In reference to that letter, political analyst Sergey Strokan of Russia’s Kommersant newspaper says that Berezovsky\u00a0“probably tried to make a deal with Putin, thinking he could do it in the way it was done in the time of Yeltsin, in the \u201990s, when politics was done through such behind-the-scenes deals – unofficial understandings – between oligarchs and politicians. But it seems it didn’t work because we had not seen Berezovsky come to Russia in recent weeks.”<\/i>\u00a0Berezovsky\u2019s death comes only a few months after his high-profile court battle with former oligarch and business-partner-turned-foe, Roman Abramovich \u2013 also the Chelsea football club owner. In what many believe to be a desperate bid to escape total bankruptcy Berezovsky accused Abramovich of blackmail and breaches of trust and contract in a dispute over the ownership of the profitable oil company Sibneft. He ended up losing the US$5.6-billion court battle, on top of which he was ordered to pay Abramovich\u2019s $56 million in legal costs.<\/p>\n

Berezovsky left Russia in 2000, shortly after his relationship with President Putin and Russia\u2019s government began to deteriorate. Just three weeks into Vladimir Putin\u2019s first presidential term, details of the pair\u2019s spat became public knowledge.<\/p>\n

He moved to London in 2001, where he was granted political asylum. Two years later Berezovsky was given new documents in the name of Platon Elenin, by the British Home Office.<\/p>\n

However, Berezovsky\u2019s battles with the Kremlin didn\u2019t end with exit from Russia. In London the tycoon became the center of a circle of anti-Putin exiles, along with Chechen rebel envoy Akhmed Zakayev and former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko, who died of polonium poisoning in November 2006.<\/p>\n

Moscow may consider holding Boris Berezovsky\u2019s funeral in Russia, should the relevant request be received, President Putin\u2019s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti. Speaking of the deceased tycoon, Peskov pointed out that he used to be a significant political figure in the 1990s, but he\u201cwouldn\u2019t overestimate his role in the 2000s, it\u2019s minimal.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

The Russian was found dead on his bathroom floor on Saturday by an employee after he became concerned about the 67-year-old’s welfare, having not seen him since 10.30pm the previous day.<\/p>\n

So far, there is no evidence of a “third party” being involved in Mr Berezovsky’s death, police said.<\/p>\n

The cause of death is still unexplained but investigators hope to have more answers once the post mortem has been carried out this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Thames Valley Police said a cordon would remain in place around the house in Ascot, Berkshire until at least Wednesday or Thursday.<\/p>\n

Officers are carrying out a “full and thorough investigation” at the property to find out the circumstances surrounding the death.<\/p>\n

Chemical, biological and nuclear experts found “nothing of concern” during their searches, despite a paramedic’s personal electronic dosimeter (PED) being triggered after he left the scene.<\/p>\n

The PED is a health and safety device carried by all paramedics to measure nuclear radiation exposure. It is not clear how the device was triggered, or what triggered it.
